Some Aspects of Electrolyte Excretion in the Green Turtle, Chelonia Mydas Mydas.
Except for the brief period of egg-laying, five species of turtle are strictly marine: namely, the green turtle (Chelonia mydas), the loggerhead turtle (Caretta carettd), Ridley's turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), the hawksbill turtle (L. imbricatd) and the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). Reptiles in the sea, like marine fish and marine birds, have a high intake of electrolytes; yet, a...
متن کاملEvaluation of hematological and plasma biochemical parameters in green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas Linnaeus, 1758) from nesting colonies of the northern coast the Sea of Oman
The green turtle (Chelonia mydas) has been a species of global concern for decades. As an attempt to study health status of nesting green turtles, Blood biochemistry and hematological values were obtained from 18 clinically normal, nesting female green sea turtles on the northern coast of the sea of Oman. Mean curved carapace length (CCL) was 111±4 cm with a range of 103—122 cm. Barnacles were ...
متن کاملCharacteristics and magnitude of sea turtle bycatch in US mid-Atlantic gillnet gear
From 1995 to 2006, US federal fisheries observers deployed aboard commercial fishing vessels in the US mid-Atlantic region documented captures of loggerhead Caretta caretta, green Chelonia mydas, Kemp’s ridley Lepidochelys kempii, and leatherback Dermochelys coriacea turtles in commercial sink gillnet gear. Data collected by these observers were used to characterize sea turtle bycatch in sink g...
متن کاملTrophic status drives interannual variability in nesting numbers of marine turtles.
Large annual fluctuations are seen in breeding numbers in many populations of non-annual breeders. We examined the interannual variation in nesting numbers of populations of green (Chelonia mydas) (n = 16 populations), loggerhead (Caretta caretta) (n = 10 populations), leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) (n = 9 populations) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) (n = 10 populations). Int...
متن کاملThe study of egg laying habitats and the success rate of green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) nesting in the northern coast of Makoran (Sistan and Baluchestan province)
Given the importance of sea turtle nesting beaches on the coast of Sistan and Baluchistan province, this project with the purpose of research and conservation of spawning habitat was conducted in 2018. The coast by the executive team and locals were monitored.Examining the Sistan and Baluchistan province, about 300 km off the coast of northern makoran Sea indicates the existence of 13 important...
